The Word in You

But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. John 5:38.

What does it mean for the Word to Abide in us?

The Greek Word for Abide is Menó meaning - to stay, remain or in other translations of the Bible they use the word “dwell”.

Why is it important that the Word remain in us? Because the values we choose to follow are drawn from our internal beliefs and those beliefs should be governed and shaped by the Word of God.

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. John 1:1

Jesus is the revelation of the Word of God here on earth and in our lives.

What you believe is born of God and not of this world, which means that when we accept Jesus into our lives that now defines who we are and is made manifest through the Word which is demonstrated in us.

So how do we know if the Word is abiding or remaining in us?

We know the Word of God is ‘abiding’ in us when it is the first thing that flows through us in any given situation or circumstance. It is the first thing demonstrated in our actions, our conduct, our thoughts and speech. When someone wrongs us, we don't seek revenge but instead pray, seek God's Will, ask the Spirit for His power and then respond with forgiveness.

Our response depicts and demonstrates what is “abiding in us” or what we choose to allow to remain in us. If the Word of God is not remaining in you, then something else will be given priority and 'residence' in your life and that is what will flow out of you.

What is abiding or dwelling in your life today?

Is it the Word of God or has something else taken its place?

Only you have the power to choose. Choose carefully, because what dwells in you, becomes you...

For further study read the following scriptures :

  • “…having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,” 1 Peter 1:23.

  • I have written to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, And you have overcome the wicked one. 1 John 2:14.

  • “As He spoke these words, many believed in Him. Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:30-31.

If this word has ministered to you and you need prayer or support in this area of your life, I will be hosting #Bible #Study sessions every 2nd Saturday in the month as a way of helping to build you up in the Word and taking practical steps to ensure its abiding in your life.
